Dr. Oriana Damas provides a presentation on the latest on diet in a case-based symposium of Crohn's disease. She covered recent publications in nutrition and IBD including new data with adults utilizing CDED, the DINE CD trial comparing SCD and Med Diet and prior studies through IBD Partners like FACES, highlighting the important role of dietary therapies in IBD.
Dr. Marla Dubinsky presents on the "Role of Diet in Prevention Strategies in IBD: The Concept of Immunonutrition" covering the associations of environmental risk factors in the development of IBD and the association of deficiency of vitamin D offering potential opportunities for prevention of IBD.
Dr. Xue Jing Li presents a poster, P0599, “Managing Crohn’s disease with a Vegan Diet” where she describes a case report of a female patient with long standing CD responding poorly to multiple medications who was able to achieve endoscopic improvement without need for medication after switching to a vegan diet.
Dr. Miguel Salazar presents a poster, P1580, “Severe Protein Calorie Malnutrition increases Mortality in Patients Admitted with Intestinal Obstruction Secondary to Crohn’s Disease: A Nationwide Analysis”. Poor nutritional status as well as malnutrition is associated with poor clinical outcomes, response to therapy and quality of life. Severe PCM poses increased mortality and health care burden in patients admitted with bowel obstruction in CD through worse inpatient outcomes and complications.
